May 2020 DBTC Ride Schedule 


Saturday, May 9th

10:00 AM FUN H2-20-NW Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) at Prospect Park for the OFFICIAL SPRING KICK OFF RIDE!! Experience this classic DBTC ride on the trails of Ralston Creek, Clear Creek, and Van Bibber as we knock the cobwebs off of our equipment and get our biking legs back! (While we keep our space between us.)


Wednesday, May 13th

9:30 AM Leisure H2-18 SW Meet your other Leisure rider friends at Reynolds Landing (Go west on Brewery Lane at Santa Fe Drive where there is a light. Continue past the Breckenridge Brewery to the big parking lot at the end of the road on the right.) The direction of the ride will be determined by those who participate. Some route suggestions: South Platte Trail to Chatfeld and back, South Platte Trail north to mileage desired by group and back, Lee Gulch Trail loop, Little Dry Creek Trail loop, Lily Gulch Trail, Dutch Creek Trail, or some Littleton, Englewood, Cherry Hills loops. Bring hand sanitizer, a mask to wear, a snack for our break and expect to stay well away from other riders along the trails and streets. Since there is a 6 rider limit in place, we can create a second group if needed, using collective best judgment of the riders who show up.

10:00 AM FUN-H1or2-15to20-SW Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069 - text to reserve your space, limited to 6 riders) behind the tennis bubble at Federal and Bowles. Depending on what the group decides we’ll head into Chatfeld State Park and loop back. We may go check on the owls as long as we are nearby.


Sunday, May 17th

9:30 AM FUN-H1- 25 SE. Meet Cyndy Klepinger at the Cook Rec Center parking lot at Cherry Street (between Monaco and Quebec). (303) 725-1565 or matilda8@msn.com.We will ride a combination of bike paths and roads  to the Aurora Soccer Fields on Colfax Ave. 

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-18/23-NW- Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for THE SPACE, TIME, 9/11 RIDE or THE HIDDEN GEMS OF BROOMFIELD! Let’s keep our space on this adventure which begins near the SE corner of Sheridan and 120th at the new Whole Foods in Westminster (1/2 mile east of Sheridan at Vrain and 120th.) (4451 Main Street 303-439-7000) We will take secret trails around Broomfeld where we will experience three incredible hidden displays including THE SOLAR SYSTEM, a brief history of GEOLOGIC COLORADO TIME, and a 9/11 MONUMENT. (This ride has an escape option at the 18 mile marker for riders who run out of time and/or steam.)


Monday, May 18th

9:30am FUN-H1-20-NE. SAND CREEK BIKING AND BIRDING. Meet Helen Berkman (720-355-5687) outside Rosenberg’s Deli at Stanley Marketplace, 2501 Dallas St., Aurora, for a nice jaunt down Westerly Creek and Sand Creek trails to the Sand Creek/So Platte confuence where the shore birds hang out. Hopefully we’ll see pelicans, egrets, herons, and plenty of ducks and geese. Bring your binoculars if you have a pair. Optional social distancing lunch afterward (if allowed by Stanley). Pack a lunch or order from one of the Stanley Marketplace takeout windows.


Tuesday, May 19th:

9:30 AM FUN-H2-27-W/E-925' elev. gain. Wednesday, May 20th

9:00 AM Fun-H2-25-NW  Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Prospect Park (44th & Robb St) for a ride west on the Clear Creek Trail to Easley Road.  We will ride to the Ralston Creek Trail and ride it’s entire length connecting to the Clear Creek Trail west back to Prospect Park.

(303) 725-1565 or matilda8@msn.com.  We will ride to and thru some of the parks of Denver, including Wash Park and City Park.  Route is on roads with bike lanes and sharrows.  This is a no-drop ride.


Friday May 22nd 

9:00 AM LEISURE/FUN-H1-24-NE. STAPLETON-LOWRY TOUR. Meet Helen Berkman    (720-355-5687) outside Rosenberg’s Deli at Stanley Marketplace, 2501 Dallas St., Aurora, for a tour of the last two developing areas of Lowry and Stapleton.  We’ll loop around the Boulevard One development and then cruise up the length of Stapleton to the new North End neighborhood right smack up next to the Arsenal (Nat’l Wildlife Refuge).  Optional social distancing lunch afterward. Pack a lunch or order from one of the Stanley Marketplace take out windows. Register via text to leader before 7:30am Friday. 


Saturday, May 23rd

9:30 PM FUN-H2-20-NW MAJESTIC PREMIERE RIDE Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) at the Majestic view Nature Center north parking lot (north on Wadsworth to W 72nd Ave, west on 72nd, just west of Carr on the south side. THIS IS NOT THE ENTRANCE at GARRISON ST. nor 71st ST!) The ride will go west on Ridge Road and van Bibber Creek Trail, north on the new Blunn Trail and then return on most of the length of Ralston Creek Trail. The theme of this ride is a “Hello to spring” as we continue to ring in the 2020 biking season!


Sunday, May 24th

8:30 AM FUN-H1- 30 - 40 SE. Meet Cyndy Klepinger at the Cook Rec Center parking lot at 7100 Cherry Creek South Street (between Monaco and Quebec)  for a ride that goes east.  Lot may be closed, but there’s parking on the street.   (303) 725-1565 or matilda8@msn.com.  Ride limited to six riders, please RSVP. We will ride a combination of bike paths, city streets and roads east to the Aurora Soccer Fields on Colfax Ave. 


Tuesday, May 26th

9:00 AM FUN+-H2-34-W-1600' elev gain. 10:30 AM, MTB, P2-3, T2.5, Marshall Mesa / Dowdy Draw.  Meet at the northeast corner of Hwy 93/170 (Marshall Road) intersection.  Park in the dirt lot on north side of road.  Starting there, upon crossing road to the actual Marshall Mesa trailhead, we will be riding Marshall Valley trail east to Community Ditch, then taking that trail back west, crossing wooden bridge to then ride Greenbelt Plateau trail south.  That trail ends by Hwy 120.  At the stoplight for Hwy 93/120, cross west to enter the Doudy Draw park system.  Ride the southern side Prairie Vista trail, find the trail dropping down to Doudy Draw, descend and ride that to the intersection for the Springbrook loop.  Take Springbrook trails in a counterclockwise direction.  After finishing there, ride the Doudy Draw trail north to Community Ditch, take that back east and under Hwy 93, then finish on the fast Coal Seam trail.  This is about 13 miles.  Other trails can be ridden at each person's individual preference.  Finish time is around 1:00 PM.  Boulder Open Space requests masks, social distancing and groups of no more than four riders. Note that there is a limit on participants so please RSVP to the Meetup event.  Comments can be added and will be read on the MeetUp site.  Jeff Baysinger is the ride leader.


Wednesday, May 27th

9:00 AM FUN-H2-17 SW  Meet Patty Gaspar 303-618-5069 behind the tennis bubble, W Bowles & S Federal in Littleton, ride the Platte River Trail to Chatfield,then east on C-470 Trail for a mostly gentle climb then across on Clarkson with fun rollers followed a great downhill to Big Dry Creek to finish the loop. Lunch afterwards is at one of the nearby eateries, if open.


Friday May 29th 

9:30 AM Leisure H1/H2-15-SW.  LEE GULCH LOOP Meet Jill McMahon (303 888-0314 cell) at the Reynolds Landing parking lot. (Go west on Brewery Lane at Santa Fe Drive where there is a light.  Continue past the Breckenridge Brewery to the big parking lot at the end of the road on the right.)   This is a loop ride on the Platte River Trail, the Big Dry Creek Trail, the Highline Trail and the Lee Gulch Trail. It winds around some very pretty areas - mostly on paved trails but some hard gravel and a short distance on residential streets.  Bring a snack.  If you want after the ride, bring lunch.  We can eat and "social distance socialize" at the tables in the large shelter at Reynolds Landing.  Please read the General Ride Guidelines in the DBTC May newsletter on page 11 for the new Covid19 club rules.  If we have more than 6 people show up, we will have to limit the group to 6 people or split into more than one group. 


Saturday, May 30th

9:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-25-NW NEW & IMPROVED WESTMINSTER CLASSIC. Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for an exciting ride full of unexpected twists, turns, and surprises...and now with BRAND NEW TRAILS. We will meet at the parking lot WEST of the baseball diamonds in Westminster City Park. (Directions: From US 36 and Church Ranch Blvd/104th Ave. exit, east on 104th about 1/2 mile to the first left after the Westminster Blvd light, then go LEFT again into the parking lot. The address for the park is 10455 Sheridan Blvd but note again that we are meeting WEST of the buildings and baseball elds.) This ride takes us through the Westminster, Northglenn, and Thornton area, including the Farmer’s Highline Canal, Lee Lateral, and Grange Hall Creek trails.


Tuesday, June 2nd

8:00 AM FUN-H2-28-NW-900' elev gain.  Depart 8:00am  Meet Marilyn Choske (303-905-8510), at Anderson Park in Wheat Ridge, 44th & Field St., first parking lot on left.  Ride this NW Denver urban adventure LOOP ride.  We'll head south, east, north, and west, back to our start.  Trails are Weir, Sanderson, Platte, Clear Creek, and some light road riding, most with bike lanes.  Starbucks stop at the Confluence for snacks & break.  Limit 6 riders, including leader.  Recommend face covering and social-distance bicycling.  Register via text to leader by Monday, June 1.  Ride will not go if rainy or forecast is for rain in morning; call leader if in doubt.  Your Club RWGPS:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/32785305?privacy_code=qN9kMgwzovsHhySM


10:30 AM FUN PLUS around 18 miles SW Meet Suzanne Carter (equinelites@aol.com) just northeast of the Pedal Bike Shop in Littleton (2640 W Belleview Ave #100.) We will ride for about 18 miles on the Bear Creek Trail. Meet near the river side of the parking lot. We will ride along bike paths and have a beer or whatever at the Pint Room at the end of the ride or maybe even at Fox Hollow Golf Course before we turn around.(2620 W Belleview Ave, Littleton, CO 80123 ) following the ride.


10:30 AM, MTB, P2-3, T2-3, Easy Cooler Lunch Ride - Elk Meadow.  The Easy Cooler Tuesday Lunch Rides are organized by Liz Cameron (bizliz8888@gmail.com 303-619-7897).   These are Show’nGo Rides:  The folks who show up decide what to ride.   A ride is scheduled every Tuesday thru the summer.  Look at Meetup.com under the DBTC group for location and time.  Today’s ride is at Elk Meadow near Bergen Park.  Meet in the Buchanan Recreation Center parking lot.  THE DIRECTIONS:Located at intersection of Colo Hwy 74 (Evergreen Parkway) and Squaw Pass (Colo Hwy 103).  From I-70: Take exit 252 for Evergreen Parkway. Continue for roughly 3 miles to the intersection of 74 and 103. Turn left at traffic light; Buchanan Park rec center and Tuscany Tavern are located in this complex adjacent to the softball fields.  From downtown Evergreen, follow Hwy 74 up to the intersection of 74 and 103.  Or load directions to 32003 Ellingwood Trail, Evergreen 80439.  THE FOOD:  Tuscany Tavern:http://tuscany-tavern.com/index.html.  Be prepared to bring a chair and food for a post ride picnic in the parking lot if the restaurant is not open.     


Wednesday, June 3rd

9:00 AM FUN-H3-22-NW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Prospect Park (44th & Robb St) for a ride west along the Clear Creek Trail to Easley Rd to the Arvada Reservoir.  We will ride a loop over the reservoir and back to the start via the same route.
