Oct 2024 DBTC Ride Schedule 


Tuesday, October 1st:

9:30 AM FUN PLUS-H3-23-Frisco Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for the brand new FREE ICE CREAM TOUR OF BRECKENRIDGE (with lingering leaf color changes.) Due to the dam road closure we will no longer ride the multi-use trail around Lake Dillon and climb the Swan Mountain bike path to the top. We will just ride the 23 mile round trip to explore Breckenridge. On the return to Frisco DBTC will purchase ice cream for all riders at the Foote Sweet Shoppe. We will meet at the Ten Mile Rec path parking lot at the southeast corner of I-70 & Main Street.  Drive westbound from Denver on I-70 to Exit 201 and look for DBTC members in the parking lot.


Wednesday, October 2nd (3 ride options):

9:30-INT-H3- 25 to 30 miles  2300 - 2600 ft gain - Meet Diane Short (303-271-9642 Landline) across from the gas station at Morrison Rd and Rooney Rd. Ride through Bear Creek Lake Park and the Lyons Ridge and Dakota Ridge neighborhoods, Willow Springs and Ken Caryl to the S. Valley rest area.  Return via the same route or back on the C-470 bike path. 

10:00 AM FUN-H2-25 SW Meet Patty Gaspar 303-618-5069 at Reynolds Landing, 6745 S Santa Fe Dr. (From Santa go west on Brewery Lane, toward the South Platte River, go past Breckenridge Brewery to the parking lot at the end of the road). We’ll ride the Platte River Trail to Chatfield; up the 470 Trail then check out the marina. We’ll enjoy a beautiful trail back to the dam, up and over then back to share our lunches at the pavilion.

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H1-43-N Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) and Lauren Delle (970-903-8409) at the River Bluffs Open Space Trailhead in Windsor.  We will ride the Poudre River Trail (all paved) in Larimer County for 21 miles to the Greeley Fairgrounds, where we will have a break.  We will return via the same route. NOTE: There is water at the start and at the fairgrounds.  There is no water available along the trail.   DIRECTIONS:  From I-25 North, take exit 262 east for 1.5 miles to County Rd 3.  Go north on County Rd 3 for 0.5 miles to County Rd 32E.  Then go east on County Rd 32E for 0.3 miles to the entrance of the River Bluffs Open Space.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic after the ride.


Thursday, October 3rd:

10:00 AM Fun Plus-H2-33 miles NE Rotella Park to Westminster Rec Center Meet Fred Tarbell, 630-888-590, at Rotella Park, East end by shelter one, 1824 Coronado Pkwy S. Denver.  We use the Niver Creek trail to connect to the North Platte River trail. North on Platte River trail to Grange Hall Creek trail which takes us to The Margaret Carpenter Park. After a short break we continue West through Thornton and Northglenn on neighborhood greenway trails to Westminster. In Westminster we connect to Farmers Highline trail to 104th Ave bikeway and follow it to Westminster Rec center.  Water and restrooms available there during our break.  We return along 104 Ave to Farmers Highline, Northglenn, Thornton greenway, and Carpenter Park on the same route.  Bring snacks or lunch items if you want to socialize at Rotella Park after the ride.


Friday, October 4th:

9:00 AM FUN - H2 - 19 SE Meet new ride leader Mark Fields (302-465-4525) at the western end of the parking park in front of Cook Recreation Center in Cook Park (7100 Cherry Creek Drive South) for an out-and-back ride on the Cherry Creek Trail down to Cherry Creek State Park and around the reservoir. Mostly gently rolling terrain with a few brief climbs (657' elevation change). Bring a sack lunch or snacks to enjoy together at Cook Park afterward.

NEW RIDE

9:30 AM- LEISURE-13-H1-SW Join Suzy Ward (720) 355-3268 and Ruby Frederick for a leisure ride in Waterton Canyon. We will ride from the Waterton Canyon TH parking lot to the dam and return the same way. Trail is a gravel path similar to the Highline Canal. Bring a chair and snacks to enjoy after the ride!

Saturday, October 5th:

9:30 AM FUN-H2-21-NW MAJESTIC 17 PARKS NEW BREWPUB RIDE. Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) at the Majestic view Park North parking lot (north on Wadsworth to W 72nd Ave, west on 72nd, just west of Carr on the south side. THIS IS NOT THE ENTRANCE at GARRISON ST. or 71st ST!) The ride will visit 17 parks by going west on Ridge Road and van Bibber Creek Trail, north on the Blunn Trail and then returning on the Ralston Creek Trail where we will stop for a break at the new COLORADO TAP HOUSE which resides on the trail!  Maybe we can get a group shot on the huge COLORADO CHAIR out front! 


Sunday, October 6th: 

10:00 AM FUN-H1-24-30 NE. ROCKY MOUNTAIN ARSENAL RIDE. Meet Cyndy Klepinger (303.725.1565) at Cake Crumbs, 2216 Kearney. We’ll ride city streets north to the Sand Creek Trail, ride toward Northfield area and Rocky Mountain Arsenal.  We will return by way of bike lanes and Central Park Greenway trails.  Pace will be 12 to 14 mph.   Ride limited to 10 riders, to reserve a spot, text Cyndy at 303.725.1565.  We will have the opportunity to get a snack at Cake Crumbs after the ride.


Monday October 7th:

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-23-SW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Reynolds Landing (6745 S. Santa Fe Dr) for a ride south on the South Platte Trail to Chatfield State Park, where we will ride to the marina via the road.  After a break, we will return via the same route.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterward. 


Wednesday, October 9th:

9:00 LEISURE-H1-16-NW. Farmer’s Highland Canal -Big Dry Creek Loop Meet Jake Jacobi (720-808-2306) at the parking lot east of Westminster’s Armed Forces Tribute Garden, on 105th Ave. We will ride along the canal, then north to Big Dry Creek and return. 10:00 AM FUN-H2-20 SW Twin Tunnel Route Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) at Broken Tee Golf Course (2101 W. Oxford, Englewood 80110) for a ride up Big Dry Creek to the Highline Canal. The canal is hard packed along this beautiful section of the trail that will have you humming Country Roads. I will be on my road bike, but a hybrid works. After a snack along the trail, we will go UNDER Hampden and Colorado Blvd. using the two new tunnels then 4 miles of downhill on Dartmouth and back. Picnic lunch after. 


Thursday, October 10th:

9:30 FUN PLUS H2-31 SW Meet Peter Woulfe (540-219-6674) at the west end of the parking lot for the Broken Tee Golf Course (2101 W. Oxford, Englewood 80110). We will ride the South Platte to Mineral up to the Columbine Trail,C-470 trail exiting at Ken Caryl through the neighborhood to South Valley Dr., South Platte Canyon Rd. to Chatfield. Returning on C-470 and the South Platte. Bring your lunch to socialize after the ride.

NEW RIDE (combined with the SOB, Seniors On Bikes, of Boulder)

9:30 AM FUN-H3-25 NW Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for the award winning Tour De Boulder ride that includes an amazing JUGGLING and Magic presentation. The ride will concentrate on the Boulder Creek, Skunk Creek and Bear Creek paths that are pretty flat but we will also take Boulder Creek a little ways up into the foothills before we turn around. The adventure begins at the parking lot near the jungle gym rocket at Scott Carpenter Park in Boulder at the SW corner of 30th ST and Arapahoe Avenue. The first 100 attendees get to ride for free!!! (We can stop for lunch at one of the exciting eateries in Boulder!)


Friday, October 11th:

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-28-SE Village Greens to REI Meet Susan Larson (720-207-7300) at Village Greens Park (9501 East Union Avenue, Greenwood Village) for a ride north on the Cherry Creek Trail. We’ll make a stop at REI for a break and then return via the same route. Bring money if you’d like to purchase a beverage at REI, maybe a hot one if it’s cold out, and bring a sack lunch or snacks to enjoy after the ride.

10:30 AM MTB P2-T2 WATERTON CANYON Join Jennifer Saxhaug (720-260-8595) and Jeff Baysinger on a ride up Waterton Canyon to the dam or Lenny’s Bench. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before ride time at the Audubon parking lot. Afterwards we can enjoy lunch in the Audubon parking area. Bring a chair and food. This scheduled ride is known to happen on rainy days. Watch the meetup site for last minute cancellations.


Saturday, October 12th:

Sunday, October 13th:

10:00 AM FUN – H1- 27 NE HIDDEN TRAILS.  Meet Cyndy Klepinger (303.725.1565) at Cake Crumbs, 2216 Kearney.  We will discover some newer trails as well as enjoy the popular Cherry Creek. .  The route starts with Cherry Creek Trail, then the Highline Canal to Tollgate to Sand Creek, Westerly Creek and finally Central Park trails.  There are a few miles of city street riding.  Ride limited to 10 riders, to reserve a spot, text Cyndy at 303.725.1565.  We will have the opportunity to get a snack at Cake Crumbs after the ride.


Monday, October 14th:

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H3-24-NW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Anderson Park (44th & Field) for a loop ride to Golden, through Arvada and back to the park.  We will ride the Clear Creek Trail, Tucker Gulch, Mesa St Trail, Van Bibber Trail and the Blunn Trail before taking 52nd Ave through western Arvada to return.  Note: We will spend approximately one mile on a wide shoulder on Hwy 93 during this ride.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterward.


Tuesday, October 15th:

10:00 AM-LEISURE-H1-20-SW TACO TUESDAY, back by popular demand. Meet Karen Kelley (303-260-9029) at the west end of Broken Tee Golf Course (2101 W Oxford, Englewood)  Ride Little Dry Creek Trail - through Cherry Hills Village- to Highline Canal (gravel)- to Big Dry Creek Trail.  Bring money for $2 tacos at Monaghan's ( 3889 S King St)

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-1100’ Gain-30 to 40 miles (group decides) SW Meet Diane Short (303-271-9642 landline) at the parking area at the Wadsworth Blvd entrance to Deer Creek Canyon (1 block south of C-470). Ride through Chatfield, Sterling Ranch to Louviers (30 miles, ~1100' elevation) with Sedalia option (40 miles). 


Wednesday, October 16th:

10:00 AM FUN-H3/4-20-SW Red Rocks Loop Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) at Stone House Park on Estes and Yale; Ride the Bear Creek Trail to the C-470 trail to Dinosaur Ridge. Up and over to Red Rocks.  Break at the Trading Post. Ride then fly down to Morrison Road and the Bear Creek Trail back to the starting point at Stone House. Bring a picnic lunch for after. Oh yes, I’ll have Carl’s ebike but you are welcome to join us on your regular bike. 


Thursday, October 17th:

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-32 mi NE Twin Lakes to Charles Winburn Park in Northglenn.  Meet Fred Tarbell ,630-888-5290, at Twin Lakes, (300 West 70th Ave – 1/8mi West of Broadway )  Denver.  The route is East on Clear Creek to South Platte bike path. North on Platte to left junction of the Grange Hall Creek trail.  Follow the trail to Margaret Carpenter Park crossing 104th Ave.  Bathroom break at Carpenter Park before continuing on a green way trail through Thornton and Northglenn suburbs. Turn North along the East side of I-25 interstate and pass under I-25 to arrive at Charles Winburn Park. A break for snacks and water before returning the same route to Twin Lakes.  Bring snacks or lunch items if you want to visit after the ride.


Saturday, October 19th:

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

10:00 FUN PLUS H2-19 SW Meet Peter Woulfe (540-219-6674) at the west end of the parking lot for the Broken Tee Golf Course (2101 W. Oxford, Englewood 80110). We ride the South Platte to Mineral up to the High Line Canal to Big Dry Creek, then back to the South Platte. We will ride some quiet residential streets, so we only cross Broadway once. Bring your lunch to socialize after the ride.


Sunday, October 20th:

10:00 AM FUN – H1 – 20 - Downtown: Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for this Incredible FREE BEVERAGE FAREWELL to Summer Adventure. We will meet at the City of Cuernavaca Park downtown (Exit at 20th Ave going east away from the mountains. Turn right over the bridge onto Little Raven, then turn right onto 19th Street, then right onto Platte River which becomes Rockmont Drive, and go until you dead end into the parking lot at the large bike statue) for this fantastic ride down the Cherry Creek Bike Path to the 4 Mile Historic House and beyond. A beverage of your choice will be provided to all riders on the return voyage at the REI Starbucks before we head back to the cars.


Monday, October 21st:

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-25-NW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Anderson Park (44th & Field) for a ride west on the Clear Creek Trail to Easley Rd, which we will take to the Ralston Creek Trail.  After a break, we will then ride the entire length of the Ralston Creek Trail returning via the Clear Creek Trail and back to the park.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterward.


Tuesday, October 22nd:

THIS RIDE IS CANCELLED!!!

9:30 LEISURE-H1-17-SW.  LEE GULCH LOOP Meet Jill McMahon(303 888-0314 cell) at the Aspen Grove Shopping Center parking lot in the very southeast corner (south of the Alamo Drafthouse which is 7301 S Santa Fe Dr Unit #850, Littleton.)   This is a loop ride on the Platte River Trail, the Big Dry Creek Trail, the Highline Trail and the Lee Gulch Trail. It winds around some very pretty areas - mostly on paved trails but some gravel and a short distance on residential streets. There will be an optional lunch afterwards at Piccino’s . Bring a snack, and money for lunch if you plan to join us.

Leisure Ride Englewood/Littleton/Cherry Hills Loop and Taco Tuesday
10:30 AM Leisure H2-20-SW Meet Lin Hark (303-507-3502) at River Run Park (2101 W Oxford Ave, Access from Englewood's Broken Tee Golf Course). We will ride a loop through Englewood, Littleton, Cherry Hills Village, and the Highline Canal. Part of the ride will be on the gravel trail along the Highline Canal. We will stop at a couple of parks. Bring a snack and money for an optional lunch at Monaghan’s for Taco Tuesday.


Wednesday, October 23rd:

9:30 AM FUN -H2/H3-24 SW Pie in the sky? Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) Granny Scott’s Pie Shop (3333 S Wadsworth Blvd.). We’ll pay our respects to the goddess and then head west to Kipling then over to the C470 trail. There is a great downhill back to Lowell and Bear Valley. Lunch at the pie shop.


Thursday, October 24th:

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H1-32 miles NE Rotella Park to Brighton. Meet Fred Tarbell (630-888-5290) at Rotella Park, 1824 S. Coronado Pkwy, Denver, (East end at shelter 1)  Ride East on Niver Creek bikeway to South Platte trail.  Turn left, North on South Platte trail, following the Platte River on the right, for 16 miles to Brighton.  Bathroom and break in Brighton, or in route, before returning the same route to Rotella Park.  Bring money for Berry Bleenz, Stone Cold Creamy, or StarBucks if desired. Entire route is flat and open, with only the last mile on the streets.  Bring snack/lunch items and to socialize after the ride if desired. 

NEW RIDE

10:00 AM FUN+ 27 miles H2 ~1500 gain. Meet Diane Short inside the RTD parking garage at 6th Ave. and Johnson Rd. Golden (at the 'Taj').  Ride through Golden and Arvada neighborhood streets and some bike paths to bypass the Arvada Reservoir and head into the neighborhoods to the north.  Back via Easley Rd. Golden and the 6th Ave. bike path.     

NEW RIDE

11:00AM MTB AFA Falcon Trail T2 P3 12.25 miles, 1500ft elev. Gain.  Meet Bill Luttrell 719 235-3868 at AFA trailhead near the football stadium at 1045am.  Take I 25 south, turn right at North Gate Bvld exit and tell guard you are going to ride the Falcon Trail.  Continue straight and turn left onto Stadium Bvld., then right onto Acadamy Bvld and go around ½ mile to the top dirt lot on the right.  The Falcon Trail is a sweet well maintained single track 12.25 mile loop trail.  There is a little of everything on this trail with steep up and downhills, nice rolling downhill, stream crossings and beautiful scenery.  You need to be at least an intermediate rider with single track skills to do this ride.   It will probably take 2 ½ to 3 hrs.  to complete the loop and we will regroup at all road crossings and a few tricky trail intersections. Register by text as I am limiting this to 10 riders.   

     

Friday, October 24th:

NEW RIDE

11:00AM MTB P2, T2, Staunton State Park

THE RIDE: Meet Steve Thomas for a ride on the Staunton State Park trails. The ride will be approx. 13 miles with some extended climbing and a few technical downhill areas.

THE TIME: Meet at the lower parking lot (go right immediately after going through the entrance booth) at 11:00AM.

THE DIRECTIONS: Go west on Hwy 285 past Conifer to S. Elk Creek. Exit S. Elk Creek and go right approx. 1.3 miles to the turnoff, on the right, to the park.

THE FOOD: Bring snacks, drinks and chairs for after the ride at the park.

Saturday, October 26th:

10:00 AM FUN-H2-22-NW Scary Halloween Graveyard Ride, meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) at the Majestic View Park north parking lot (north on Wadsworth to W 72nd Ave, west on 72nd, just west of Carr on the south side. THIS IS NOT THE ENTRANCE at GARRISON ST. or 71st ST!) for this tour of three old Arvada graveyards.  Costumes are welcome but not required. There may be a ghoulish lunch afterwards for those who survive this haunting experience!

 

Monday, October 28th:  Merri’s Halloween Ride

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-20-SW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at the Stone House (Estes & Yale along the Bear Creek Trail) for a ride to Crown Hill Cemetery.  We will ride north on Garrison to 26th Ave, riding a loop through the Applewood neighborhoods to the cemetery where we will enjoy a bike tour of some famous gravesites.  After a break, we will return to the start.  Feel free to dress in costume.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterward.


Tuesday, October 29th:

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-30-SE Ride to Enchanted Grounds Coffeehouse Meet Susan Larson (720-207-7300) at Arapahoe Road Trailhead (.2 miles east on Arapahoe Rd from the Arapahoe Rd and S. Jordan Rd intersection) for a fun ride along the Cherry Creek Trail south to the E470 Trail where we’ll turn and go west. We’ll ride over the bridges near Park Meadows continuing on to Colorado Blvd. We’ll head south there for .5 miles stopping at Enchanted Grounds Coffeehouse for a break. Bring money for a beverage. We’ll ride back on the same route. Bring a sack lunch or snacks to enjoy after the ride. 


Wednesday, October 30th:

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

9:30 AM FUN-H2/H3-25 SW Latte Ride Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) behind the McDonald’s at Sheridan and Dartmouth. My old commute - we’ll head to the Tech Center on various trails. We must climb some hills and there are sections on the Highline Canal (pea gravel), and then we’ll have our morning latte COMPLEMENTS OF DBTC and loop back to Bear Valley. It is a beautiful ride, and we have a wonderful downhill back to Bear Valley. A beautiful way to end the season.

MTB P2, T1, Backcountry Trails

THE RIDE: Meet Steve Thomas to explore the numerous trail options in the far south end of Highlands Ranch including a portion of the Douglas County East-West Trail. The trails are smooth singletrack with lots of twists and turns and a few short climbs. Total distance is about 14 miles.

THE TIME: Meet at Pronghorn Park parking lot at 10:30 AM.

THE DIRECTIONS: Go south on Broadway to Wildcat Reserve Pkwy. Go right (west) on Wildcat Reserve and take the first left onto Wethersfield Way. Go south on Wethersfield a short distance to Pronghorn Park, on the right side of the street.

THE FOOD: Bring snacks, drinks and chairs for after the ride at the park.

Thursday, October 31st:

10:00 AM-FUN-H1-24 miles NE Twin Lakes to Sand Creek and Northfield Loop Meet Fred Tarbell (630-888-5290) at Twin Lakes 300 70th Ave Denver (1/8 mi West of 53 and 224) We will ride East on Clear Creek trail to South Platte trail junction. Turn right over Clear Creek bridge to Denver. Follow Platte bike path South to the Sand Creek trail junction on left. Follow Sand Creek trail to the Sand Creek Greenway and do a big loop around urban Central Park.  At 13 miles a mid ride stop at Starbucks for bathroom and refreshment.  After our break we continue along Central Park Blvd to the North Field Mall.  We extend our ride by another loop around urban Prairie Basin and Meadow Basin Parks. Return on Sand Creek to Twin Lakes for recovery, socializing, and lunch that you brought. Bring money for your Starbucks break.


Friday, Nov. 1st

NEW RIDE!!!

Lin’s Birthday Ride FUN-H1-0 or 18 or 20 or 27 up to 65 Central 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM Meet Lin Hark (303 507-3502) at the REI Flagship Store ( Suggestion: Park nearby or ride from home and meet Lin at REI.) Bring layers of clothes, water, snacks, lunch to eat at REI at 1 PM (or you can buy a sandwich at Starbucks or Vitamin Cottage) a lock and money for lunch. No gifts, your presence will be Lin’s gift. Rain date Saturday, November 9. Here are the ride options:

STAGE 1 9:00 AM FUN-H1-18-Central Meet Lin at REI FUN/Leisure morning riders will meet at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM start for the morning 18ish miles. Hardy riders can brave the morning chill for a short brisk ride out and back North on the Platte River Trail to arrive at REI for a quick break before stage 2 at 11:00 AM.

STAGE 2 11:00 AM FUN-H1-18-Central Meet Lin at REI Flagship Store’s sunny porch for the second stage of her birthday ride. Ride out and back on Cherry Creek Trail. Park nearby and ride to REI to meet no later than 11 AM.

LUNCH CELEBRATION 1:00-2:00 PM Lunch at Starbucks Meet your DBTC friends at REI hopefully out on the deck in the sunshine, but if the sun is not shining we can go inside Starbucks to warm up. If you aren’t riding anymore but just want to join the fun just come for lunch! Or do your own ride from home and meet at REI for lunch.

STAGE 3 2:00 PM FUN-H1-18-Central Start with Lin from REI for the last leg going South on the Platte and back. Riders who choose to do only the afternoon ride can come at 1 PM to join the group for lunch before riding the afternoon 18 miles (or turn around whenever you like).
