Sunday, May 1st:

11:00 AM ,MTB,   P2 T2   Bear Creek Lake  Meet Cathy Leibowitz  and Dick  Plastino at Moe's BBQ for a 2-2 1/2 hour ride through the park on single track to help get warmed up for the season. Meet back at Moes for lunch  


Monday, May 2nd:

9:30AM FUN/FUN PLUS-H1-20-NW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Twin Lakes Park (west of Broadway on 70th, 300 W. 70th) for a ride east on the Clear Creek Trail to the South Platte Trail and south to REI.  After a break we will return via the same route.  WaynePetBring a sack lunch for a picnic afterwards.

10:00 AM Leisure-H1-18-SE Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at Chili's Grill & Bar parking lot at 265 S. Abilene St, Aurora, CO 80012 for a ride on the Highline Canal to the end and return. The ride is on a paved bike path. An optional lunch after the ride at Chili's.

 

Tuesday, May 3

9:30 AMFUN+-H3-10-W-1370'gain. "Progressive Lookout Challenge #1: Lookout Mountain for Beginners 101!" Been wanting to try Lookout and/or just wanting to get elevation training in? Me too. This easier one's for you.  Meet Marilyn Choske (303-905-8510) at the Lookout Mountain Road "pillars" parking lot--> (from Hwy 6, go .3 mile on Lookout Mtn Road to parking on the left. Restrooms available. If you pass the two big pillars, you've gone too far.) We'll ride at our own paces and stop at the Windy Saddle Lot 3.1 miles from the cars; regroup.  Continue to 4.7 miles and pull off at the yellow posts on the right; regroup. Ride up to the souvenir shop/restrooms/viewing deck. Return down the mountain to our cars!  Register via TEXT to leader by May 2.  Ride will not go if rainy or forecast is for morning rain; call leader if in doubt.

10:00 AM FUN-H2/H3-25 SW Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) behind the McDonald’s at Sheridan and Dartmouth. We’ll head to the Tech Center on various trails. We must climb some hills and there are sections on the Highline Canal (pea gravel), and then we’ll have our morning latte COMPLEMENTS OF DBTC then loop back to Bear Valley. It is a beautiful ride, and we have a wonderful downhill back to Bear Valley.


Thursday, May 5th

9:30 AMFUN+-H3-10-W-1370'gain. "Progressive Lookout Challenge #1 - Repeat the Feat!.  Yep, this is a repeat of Tuesday's ride.  If you just want a quick couple of hours for conditioning, join Marilyn Choske (303-905-8510) at the Lookout Mountain Road "pillars'' parking lot--> (from Hwy 6, go .3 mile on Lookout Mtn Road to park on the left. Restrooms available. If you pass the two big pillars, you've gone too far.) 10:00 AM, MTB, P2, T2, Dawson Butte.   A nice five mile loop south of Denver.  Liz Cameron will meet the riders, however this is a show and go - riders decide which direction to go.   DIRECTIONS:   Go south on I-25 to exit 181 in Castle Rock.  Continue on the frontage road south for five miles to Tomah Road.  Go right on Tomah for 1.5 miles to the trailhead.  Address is 1753 Tomah Road, Castle Rock, CO 80109.  POST-RIDE:  Bring snacks and a chair for picnic at trailhead.


Friday, May 6th 

10:00 AM LEISURE-HI-20-SW  Visit Melba Meet Lin Hark (303-507-3502) at Reynolds Landing (1 mile north of Carson Nature Center and Aspen Grove) at 6745 S Santa Fe Dr. From Santa e go west on Brewery Lane, toward the South Platte River, go past Breckenridge Brewery to the parking lot at the end of the road. We will ride bike paths East toward Centennial, stop for snacks and refreshments at Melba's and loop back to Reynolds Landing. See the article in the newsletter for information about Melba and her history with the DBTC.


Saturday, May 7th:

9:30 AM FUN-PLUS/INT-H2-23-NW Meet Peter Woulfe (540-219-6674), at Anderson Park (44th & Field) . We will ride west on Clear Creek Trail to McIntyre, then on to the Ralston Creek, Blunn, and Van Bibber Trails, a few streets to Easley and then back to the Clear Creek Trail and return. Bring lunch and a chair for a picnic afterwards.


Mother's Day Sunday, May 8th 

9:30AM FUN H2–19 - Downtown Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for this Mother's Day Mother's Appreciation Beverage Ride that is designed for both mothers and anyone who has or has had a mother. We will meet at the City of Cuernavaca Park downtown (23rd Ave Exit from I25, go down the hill, drive by the REI Superstore going NE, cross 15th St and keep going till you see the parking lot directly in front of you. Go to the parking lot past the large bike statue.) for this fantastic ride down the Cherry Creek Bike Path towards the Cherry Creek Reservoir and back. Remember that a beverage of your choice will be provided to all mothers and non-mothers alike at the break at the REI Starbucks on the return voyage. THIS RIDE WILL START YOUR MOTHER'S DAY OFF WITH A BANG!


Monday, May 9th:

Briarwood Cir., Aurora in the Cornerstar Shopping Center near the intersection of South Parker Rd. and E. Arapahoe Rk. We will ride to the Cherry Creek Reservoir and back. an optional lunch will be at Famous Dave’s

9:30 AM FUN/FUN PLUS-H3-25-NW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Crown Hill Park (26th & Garrison) for a ride south to Alameda and then west to Morrison via Rooney Rd. After a break we will return via Morrison Rd to the Stone house and then back north to Crown Hill via Lakewood neighborhoods. Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterwards.


Tuesday, May 10th:

9:45 AM ROLL 10:00 AM. FUN-H2-24.1-W-+828’ elev. “The INFINITY-to-INFINITUS Loop *Event*!” Leader needs a head count pre-ride and it’s important that riders TEXT RSVP to 303-905-8510. Register by May 9th, 3pm. Join Marilyn Choske at the Infinitus Pizza Pie rear parking lot, 5807 W. 38th Ave, Wheat Ridge. From the Pie lot, we’ll maneuver our way to Clear Creek Trail west and up Simms St into Arvada to click onto the Ralston Creek Trail east to CCT, then south on bike-friendly streets to do a wraparound of Sloans Lake. Make our way west and north back to Infinitus for a well-deserved artisan pizza and beverage. (Bicyclists get a free soft drink. Our group riders can opt for a stronger brew at Happy Hour prices. Thank You Matt, the Manager!) This ride may feel infinite but there IS an Infinitus pizza pie awaiting you at the end! Bring $ to enjoy lunch. If you have a DBTC jersey, wear it! Wednesday, May 11th:

9:30 AM LEISURE H1- 20-NE Ride to Brighton. Meet Marcy Rodney (720-985-3403) at Elaine Valente Open Space, 6595 E 104th Ave. We’ll have a there-and-back ride along the Platte River, with great accent marks from some fun wooden sculptures! Bring a snack, we’ll take a break in Veteran’s Park. For those who are interested, we’ll drive to a nearby restaurant for lunch afterwards.

We’ll head toward the rebuilt Bow Mar area and go to Bowles Lake, Grant Ranch to Wadsworth and back to Sheridan High School. We’ll ride some hills and lots of ups and downs, some beautiful quiet streets and pleasant bike paths. We will enjoy an extended break on the patio at Whole Foods -those with a time crunch can head straight back - then meander back to the library.


Friday, May 13:

FUN-H1-26-NW-+700’ 9:00AM “It’s Your Lucky Friday-the-13th Day” Join Marilyn Choske (TEXT to REGISTER - 303-905- 8510), at Anderson Park, 44th & Field St, Wheat Ridge; park in rear lot near bike path. Pedal east on Clear Creek to Platte River S, stop at Starbucks/REI (bring $), and return via bike-friendly streets. Construction? Who knows? It’s always a surprise! Comfy 9-13 mph/slower pace==> Leader is recuperating from minor back procedure. Ride won’t go if rainy or forecast is for rain in morning; call the leader if in doubt.

11:00 AM LEISURE - H1/2- 15 - SW CHOCOHOLICS! Fellow chocos Richard Gieseler and Suzanne Gruba designed this ride for you. Find them at the Littleton Golf and Tennis Pavilion northeast of S. Federal and W. Bowles Ave. at 11am. We will ride at a leisurely place south on the bike path and climb Jackass Hill. Those riders who want more miles can climb up Chatfield Reservoir Dam and down. After the climb we will ride north over rolling hills to downtown Littleton and the Chocolate Therapy store. We will follow the Leisure rider mantra of “Dessert First’’ followed by your self-provided sack lunch at the meeting place. Questions? call Richard at 303-722-1475

Meet at the South Valley North Trailhead for a ride on the trails of South Valley Park and the South Hogback Open Space. Please use Meetup to RSVP. Info about the park can be found at https://www.jeffco.us/1431/South-Valley-Park . THE DIRECTIONS: From the interchange of C-470 and Ken Caryl Ave., go west one-third mile to the first traffic signal and turn left at the light (which is about a 45 degree turn.) Go south about one mile, passing straight through the stop sign intersection. Continue south until you see the parking lot and restrooms on the left. Turn left and park on the far end of the upper level. POST-RIDE: Bring a snack and a chair for a picnic at the trailhead.

9:00 AM FUN PLUS H2-23-SE Meet Ellen Fitzpatrick (720-209-2269) at Cook Park Rec Center , 7100 South Cherry Creek Drive, Denver (just east of Monaco). We will ride south and East to connect to Dartmouth taking it to the Platte River and north where we’ll stop at confluence park for a Starbucks break. Then ride the Cherry Creek bike path back to Cook Park. Bring a lunch for end of ride picnic at park.


Sunday, May 15th:

NEW RIDE:

9:30 am FUN-H1-24-30 NE. RIDE TO THE ARSENAL. Meet Cyndy Klepinger (303.725.1565)  at Cake Crumbs, 2216 Kearney. We’ll ride city streets north to the Sand Creek Trail, ride toward Northfield area and Rocky Mountain Arsenal.  We will return byway of bike lanes and Central Park Greenway trails. Cyclists can now ride the paved roads at the park except through the bison pastures aka wildlife drive, so depending on the group we can add additional miles.

9:00 AM FUN PLUS–H3–21-NW - Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) THE HIDDEN GEMS OF LOUISVILLE!!! (Elevation Gain = 1225 feet) This exciting ride full of twists and turns uses the newest portion of the HWY 36 trail that goes west from Interlocken into Boulder then loops back through Louisville and Superior using some interesting secret trails including the Double Lombard Street Experience and the famous Black Hole of Louisville! See you at the Safeway at the Rock Creek village Shopping Center in Superior for this somewhat new tour of the trails of Superior, Louisville, and South Boulder (with a few roads mixed in as required). Rock Creek village is centrally located in Superior at the NW corner of Coalton and Rock Creek Parkway (Address is 1601 Coalton Road Superior, CO. 80027.)


Monday, May 16th:

9:00 AM FUN-H1-30-SE Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at the Original Brooklyn’s 2644 W. Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80204 for a ride on the Platte River Trail to the Cherry Creek trail to the Highline Canal and back. It is a ride mostly on paved bike paths. An optional lunch is at the Original Brooklyn’s.

10 am-Fun/Plus-H1-30-SE Meet Wes & Ruby Frederick (303-522-3573) at Parker Rec Center (17301 Lincoln Ave. Parker, CO 80134).  Meet near the yellow slides.  We will take the CC Trail south towards Franktown to the end of the Trail (includes 1/4 mile of hard packed dirt road, pea gravel).  Return via the same way with a stop at Swirls Frozen Yogurt for a DBTC treat!


Tuesday, May 17th:

8:00 AM FUN+-H3-16-W-+1897’ “Progressive Lookout Challenge #2: Lookout Mountain for Beginners 102!” We add a bit more distance & elevation from the “101” ride! Meet Marilyn Choske (TEXT to register by May 16 -303-905-8510) at the meeting place described at end of description. Once we get to Lookout Mountain Road, ride at your pace to the Windy Saddle lot at 5.2 miles; regroup. Continue to 6.8 miles and pull off at the yellow posts on the right; regroup. Ride up to the shop/restrooms/viewing deck. Enjoy the downhill ride and we’ll stop at a nearby coffee stop to celebrate--*compliments of DBTC*--your Lookout accomplishment! Return to the cars. Ride will not go if rainy or forecast is for morning rain; call the leader if in doubt. MEET PLACE directions: Large Coors parking lot ACROSS Jackson Street from the American Mountaineering Center in Golden. Lot boundaries are Ford/Jackson and 9th/10th Streets. If you come in from Hwy 58, exit Washington St and go south to LEFT turn at 9th St, then RIGHT turn onto Jackson. Enter LEFT from Jackson. Please look at a map if you need visual verification. ***DO NOT PARK in the AMC smaller parking lot!*** Look for my red Kia Sportage w/bike rack.


Wednesday, May 18th:

9:30 FUN PLUS H2-25 SW Meet Peter Woulfe (540-219-6674)cell at the west end of the parking lot for the Broken Tee Golf Course (2101 W. Oxford, Englewood 80110). We will ride the South Platte to 470 up the dam at Chatfield, then up to the High Line Canal to Big Dry Creek, then back to the South Platte. We will ride some quiet residential streets, so we only cross Broadway once. Bring lunch and a chair for a picnic afterwards.

9:30 FUN - Same ride, same place, just not the same pace. Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069 will lead the same ride at a slower pace. There is a lot of gravel on this ride. Picnic lunch afterwards.


Thursday, May 19th:

8:00 AM FUN+-H3-26-W-1,493’ elev’. Meet ride leader, Marilyn Choske (text to REGISTER by May 18 - 303-905-8510), at Wheat Ridge Rec Center in Wheat Ridge, 41st & Kipling., far north end parking lot nearest Kipling Street. Ride west on Clear Creek Trail (CCT), onto Easley Road, and encircle North Table Mountain around to 58th & Hwy 93. Ride into the East entrance of White Ranch Park, then go west, access 6th Ave bike path to Taj Mahal. Ride bike-friendly (for the most part) streets and paths; DBTC treat beverage stops before returning to cars. Leader is “on tour” for 3 weeks...see you in mid-June!

10:00 AM, MTB, P2, T1.5, Greenland. Liz Cameron will meet the riders, however, this is a show and go - riders decide route. Greenland, Spruce Meadows, and Spruce Mountain are open spaces managed by Douglas County. Most trails are easy single tracks - especially Greenland. DIRECTIONS: The address for the Greenland Trailhead is 1532 Noe Road, Larkspur, CO 80118. Normally you get off I-25 at exit 167 (Greenland exit), go west a short distance, then go left just before the railroad tracks. Because of I-25 construction you might have to detour to access the trailhead. Check the Meetup for updates before the ride. POST-RIDE: Bring snacks and a chair for picnic at trailhead.


Friday May 20th

9:30 AM LEISURE H1-20-SE Cherry Creek Trail South. Meet Jill McMahon, 303 888-0314(cell), at Arapahoe Rd Trailhead (just east of Jordan Road on the south side of the street) for a ride south along the Cherry Creek Trail for about 10 miles and return. Bring a snack, and money for an optional lunch following the ride. Since this ride is out and back, there is opportunity for a shorter ride for anyone wishing that option.


Saturday, May 21st:

Bring food for a post-ride picnic lunch at beautiful Twin Lakes Park.

To do this loop right we need to go 29 miles but it will be well worth the effort! We will meet at Twin Lakes Park (west of Broadway on 70th Ave). Bring food for a post-ride picnic lunch at beautiful Twin Lakes Park.

Monday, May 23rd:

RIDE IS CANCELLED:

9:00 AM FUN-H2-24 NW Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at the Black-eyed Pea parking lot 211 W 104th Ave, Northglenn, CO 80234 for a ride on the Farmers Highline canal to the Signal Ditch trail to the Lee lateral Ditch to complete the loop. The ride is on a mostly paved bike trail with some street riding. An optional lunch is at the Black-eyed Pea. 

TIME CHANGED FROM 9AM TO 10AM:

Wednesday, May 25th:

9:00AM FUN/FUN PLUS-H2-22-NW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Crown Hill Park (26th & Garrison) for a ride to Wash Park.  We will ride through neighborhoods to the Cherry Creek Trail, which we will take to Wash Park.  After riding around the park and taking a break we will return via the same route.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterwards.


Thursday, May 26th

RELPACED WITH MTB RIDE SHOWN BELOW

10:00 AM, MTB, P2, T2, Waterton Canyon.  This is a Show’nGo sponsored by Liz Cameron.   Riders decide how far into the canyon they want to travel.  DIRECTIONS:  Take Wadsworth four miles south from C-470, go left where the brown info sign directs, then about 300 feet beyond the Audubon Center to the parking lot.  POST-RIDE:  Bring snacks and a chair to picnic in the parking lot.

10:00 AM, MTB P2,T2, Easy Cooler Lunch Ride - Alderfers/Three Sisters Park. West parking lot. These are Show’nGo Rides: Hosted by Liz Cameron, but there is no official leader. The folks who show up decide which trails to ride.

THE DIRECTIONS: Go to the signalized “T” intersection in downtown Evergreen, then south on Hwy 73 for ½ mile to another signal at Buffalo Park Road. Turn right (west) for 2.2 miles and enter the upper Alderfer parking lot just beyond the bright yellow house in the meadow.

POSTRIDE: Bring a chair and food for a post ride picnic in the parking lot.

PS - later this summer, there may be maintenance at this parking lot, however Liz called Jeffco , and they indicated the west parking lot ( yellow house) is open.


Friday, May 27th:

9:30 LEISURE H1–17 SE Meet Dave Noble (home 303-694-2008, cell 303-906-3163) at the Wheatlands Community Park (S. Wheatlands Parkway) to ride a couple times around Aurora Reservoir.  (Directions: From S. Parker and E. Arapahoe Rd., go east past E470 to S. Tallyn's Reach Pkwy, go north across Smoky Hill Rd on S. Ider St to Wheatlands Pkwy, then right to the community park.)  Note that this starting point is MUCH easier than riding from Southlands Shopping Ctr.  Afterwards we'll have lunch in Southlands Shopping Center.


Saturday, May 28th:

9:00 AM FUN PLUS-H3-21 NW (1541 ft of elevation gain) HIDDEN GEMS OF GOLDEN!!! Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for this fairly new Hidden Gems adventure around beautiful Golden. We will meet at the Lions Park parking lot which is on the left at 10th and Maple by the softball field restrooms in Golden. We will then ride the Golden Circle, Tucker Gulch, and beyond to Heritage Park and other unexplored areas.  This ride has been improved each time that I lead it so I can now promise you a rose garden!!! (UPDATE: Now includes the brand new HWY 6 trail into the foothills!) 


Sunday, May 29th:

NEW RIDE

9 am- Fun Plus/INT- H3 (elev 1150’)22-SE Meet on the SE side of King Soopers Marketplace between King Soopers & 3 Margaritas restaurant (25701 E. Smoky Hill Rd. Aurora, CO 80016).  We will take Powhaton Rd and go around Aurora Reservoir, then take Powhaton Rd/Harvest Rd through a neighborhood bike path to High Plains Trail/HPT from Quincy to Smoky Hill Rd and across, to Red Tailed Hawk Park and Irish Dr/Sampson Gulch to Powhaton Rd back to our starting point.  We will regroup at the top of each climb.  Bring $$ for lunch at Dion’s Pizza after the ride.


NEW RIDE

10:30 AM, MTB NW Make your fun plans for the dirt trail tribe gathering. The annual ride is ON again. This is the mountain bike ride leading into summer season. Join tribe members at the trail head, before they break into clans.

Route is following Marshall Mesa to Community Ditch, back to the Marshall Mesa climb southward. Cross Hwy 93 at the southwest corner of the Greenbelt area, then go southwest to Doudy Draw. Explore the Vista trails before descending the rocky gulch dropping into Spring Brook loop. Ride the circle counter-clockwise while thinking about your summer adventures. Return via Community Ditch and the Hwy 93 underpass.

As usual, compare notes at Southern Sun Brewpub. Southern Sun is about 3 miles north of the trailhead, in the Table Mesa Shopping Center. Order and sandwich and get a refreshing drink.

Please keenly NOTE: Southern Sun is CASH only!

Fine print NOTE: about 1 out of 3 or 4 years, this ride has been re-scheduled due to rain. Perhaps that would be nice this very dry year. In any case, a weather and trail condition check will be made about 2 days in advance. Please watch for comments whether this will happen or will need to be re-scheduled.


Monday, May 30th:  Memorial Day

9:00AM FUN/FUN PLUS-H2-24-NW Meet Merri Bruntz (303-517-9781) at Anderson Park (44th & Field St) for a ride west on the Clear Creek Trail to Easley Rd, which we will take north to the Blunn Trail and the west side of the Westwoods Golf Course along the Ralston Creek Trail.  After a break we will return via Virgil Way and Easley Rd leading us to the Clear Creek Trail and back to the park.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterwards.

10:00 AM, MTB, P2-3, T2-3, Easy Cooler Lunch Ride - Elk Meadow ( Buchanan Park Rec Center )

The Easy Cooler Tuesday Lunch Rides are organized by Liz Cameron. These are Show’nGo Rides:  The folks who show up decide which trails to ride.   

Meet in Evergreen’s  Buchanan Park Recreation Center parking lot.  

THE DIRECTIONS: Buchanan Park Rec Center is located at intersection of Colo Hwy 74 (Evergreen Parkway) and Squaw Pass (Colo Hwy 103). 

From I-70: Take exit 252 for Evergreen Parkway. Continue for roughly 3 miles to intersection of 74 and 103. Turn left at traffic light; Buchanan Park rec center and Tuscany Tavern are located in this complex adjacent to the softball fields.  

From downtown Evergreen, follow Hwy 74 up to intersection of 74 and 103.  Or load directions to 32003 Ellingwood Trail, Evergreen 80439.

POSTRIDE:   Bring a chair and food for a post ride picnic in the parking lot.    

If riders wish, we can dine on the patio of Tuscany Tavern , located adjacent to the Buchanan Park Rec Center


Saturday June 4th:

10:00AM LEISURE - H1 - 15 - NE  Five Points Jazz Festival. 15 miles of urban congested traffic.   Inner City dwellers Richard Gieseler and Suzanne Gruba will greet you at the Broadway Marketplace RTD Park and Ride at S. Bannock and W. Dakota Aves. in the middle of the shopping center at 10am. Park in the RTD parking places.   We will ride north on the South Platte Bikeway past REI and downtown to a rest area.  We will then ride to the north end of the Jazz Festival where we lock our bikes with U-locks.  On foot we explore and enjoy the Festival and the lunch food trucks.  After an hour or so of music, crowds and food purchased by you,  Richard will lead us back to Broadway Marketplace.  Questions?
