NORTHERN MICHIGAN TOUR
Are you ready for some scenic Lake Michigan area bike routes along with fun activities and DBTC camaraderie? If you answer YES, then the new Northern Michigan Out of Town Tour is a “must do”. Kathy and Joe Stommel are happy to announce a new 9 night tour offering for June 2 through 11, 2025. We start with four nights in beautiful Mackinaw City, Michigan on the south end of the 5-mile long Mackinac Bridge - the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. Planned routes include a taking a ferry to historic, vehicle-free, Mackinac Island, Wilderness State Park and other waterfront options. Our next location will be Harbor Springs, Michigan named a top bicycling destination! During our three night stay, we’ll ride through Tunnel of Trees, Little Traverse WheelwayTrail and explore nearby town of Petoskey. The final destination is Glen Haven, Michigan with a two-night stay in a historic Bed & Breakfast. Our lodge is next door to Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and Dunes. Hotels in Mackinaw City and Harbor Springs feature two-queen beds, breakfast, mini fridge & microwave, indoor pool, laundry facilities, and much more. The B & B rooms in Glen Haven all have one queen or one king bed, private bathrooms, and a delicious home-cooked breakfast. Be advised all three locations prohibit bikes in the rooms. However, we are offered locked storage rooms with exception of the B & B. This tour is rated Fun Plus and requires participants to be independent riders capable of handling their own bike repairs/maintenance. We recommend hybrid, gravel or wider-tire bikes because some routes are crushed limestone or gravel. However, there will be options for anyone that prefers to only ride on pavement. We will occasionally ride on roads with little or no shoulder. Daily distances range from under 20 to around 45 miles. We will allow pedal-assist electric bikes on this tour with the exception of Mackinac Island where E-bikes are currently prohibited. Bike rental is readily available on the island. Total price per person for double occupancy is $1,900 plus a $50 fee payable to DBTC. To register, please complete the DBTC Liability Waiver and Registration/Medical forms found at dbtc.org website, items 1 & 2 of the Out of Town tab. Mail these forms along with a $1,000 deposit payable to Kathy Stommel, 9631 Autumnwood Pl, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. Final payment of $900 and the $50 DBTC fee is due before March 1, 2025. Registration is limited to 14 participants with only 2 single rooms available; single supplement of $1,150 required. Minimum of 12 participants will make the tour to go. Registration is not confirmed until registration forms and $1,000 deposit is received. Keep in mind that registration fees are non-refundable but may be transferred if a substitute is available; no changes permitted within 30-days of tour start.
